Blogging is hard

Lots going on, no time to talk.

Seriously though. I am doing a terrible job at this.

Jessica and I just got back from visiting family in Florida. Its always nice to see everyone down there. I really do wish we lived closer, they are such good people.
While down there we did go to a science museum where we were the only people there over 15 that weren't chaperoning a bunch of kids. It was fun none the less. Best part about the vacation was that the hotel was free thanks to all the points I accrued this summer.

I am also working on revamping www.thesermonscribe.com
I'll let you know when it goes live.

Snake!!

While walking through the dessert I came across another snake. Once my heart stopped beating so hard after I made sure it wasn't a rattle snake I was able to enjoy my experience a little more. This guy was about 5' long and pretty fat, he had been eating well.
So what do you do when you come across a snake like this that you are pretty sure isn't poisonous? You try to pick it up of course. Well I started by picking up his tail and that went ok. He started shaking it like a rattler and that's when I realized that he wasn't poisonous. I started picking up his tail and slowly working up his body but I must have his a sore spot because he didn't like that at all. He coiled up just like a rattler and got in to a position to strike. (I didn't get a good picture of that.)
Anyway, after he did that I decided to leave him alone. Enjoy the pictures from my encounter.

It's been a while

Sorry for the long delay to all (both) you readers out there. I've been very busy traveling for work and catching up with all my home chores while I'm there. Because it's been over a month, let me get you caught up.

...Have really started to enjoy running while at the hotel and quickly learned that my shoes were worn out. I bought a new pair and splurged for a pair of Nike Shox. I love them, well worth the $100. They have a slot to insert a sensor that connects to your iPod so you can track your distance, pace, calories, and progress during the run. Well, I had to get that too. One problem, I didn't have an iPod. So, I sold some old phones and my current mp3 player and got a nano refurb from apple. Again, I really like this thing. It was a great set of purchases.

...Jessica upgraded her phone to a MyTouch. I'm really jealous and am just going to leave it at that.

...Signed up for Netflix. If you haven't done so yet, you need to. RIGHT NOW. Its great and has a wonderful user interface.

...Shaved my head to the scalp while in the desert but decided it's too much work to do it every day so I'm going to keep a little stubble.

...Read a couple of books, The Noticer, Execution (management book), A brief History of Time (Science book), The Lie (creation book), half way through The Change Function, and a couple of chapters into Biblical Doctrine. Hard to believe I actually like to read now.

Thats going to have to be enough for now.
Thanks for reading,
Chris

Working in the Desert

Well, as many of you know I am currently working out in the desert. I am staying in El Paso, Tx and working up in New Mexico. Phoenix is definitely better than El Paso. But, I really don't see what the appeal is for living in either area.

While working at WSMR (white sands missile range) we have been warned of the Oryx (big antelope), Rattle Snakes, Scorpions, and Tarantulas. So far all we have seen are lots of Jack Rabbits, owls, millipedes, ants, and a dead Oryx.

Also haven't got a chance to really take any of the HMMWVs off road but thats alright. There are lots of cool tanks around us.

I did take some pictures of the ride out there but am not allow to take any pictures from WSMR. Most are on the road home to El Paso and the town of El Paso. Oh, and we can see Mexico from the road in town. No pics of it today. Tomorrow, I will switch lenses.

Enjoy some pictures.

Arizona

Well, I've been in Tempe for a couple of days now. So, you must be wondering why I haven't posted anything yet. Well, when it came time to take my laptop out of its bag to pass through security at the airport I used my college education to quickly discover that I had left my laptop at home. Oh well, sitting on the shared machine in the lobby isn't all that bad.

We are out here learning how to operate some equipment to take out to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. I think I have a good idea of what it takes and that I am going to get really bored while I'm out there. I did get to drive my first HMMWV yesterday so thats pretty cool.

The landscape out here is very different. The ground is really flat but we are surrounded by mountains. There is no grass, just dust and rocks everywhere. I took some pictures but haven't uploaded them to a PC yet so you can't see them. I'm going to climb one of the mountains today (a small one) so maybe I can get some good shots of that.

Got to run. Be home is a few days.

Happy Anniversary to the Griffins

I went over the Jeremy and Julie's house to take pictures for their anniversary and thought I would share some with you. Of course, I had to get some of my nephew Benjamin who was pimping a GT bib.

I'll let you decide which picture is best.

Vacation Update

Vacation is so nice. We just love sitting around and doing nothing. Our friend Amanda came and stayed with us for the first couple of days but is now gone. We have also moved from the townhouse to the condo which is sitting right on the beach. It is so nice to walk out to the pool and to the beach right from our ground room floor.

Don't feel like typing much so here are some pictures.

HOPE

Last night at Ewing Road we hosted Dave Ramsey's Town Hall for Hope meeting. First off I would like to thank everyone for coming despite the bad rain and hail storms in the area. I have no doubt that stopped many people from coming out. But that was their loss.

Together we had about 35 people gathered together to hear the message of hope. We learned what we already knew deep inside of us, that hope comes from us and from God. One thing I've learned from Dave and God over the years is being prepared and having your hopes and joy rooted in the right things is the key. Then and only then can you make active decisions instead of reactive ones. Happening to something instead of stuff happening to you.

No longer does anyone need to make decisions based on fear.

I pray that everyone attended this meeting got energized. I pray that they tell others about what they learned and most importantly I pray they saw how Dave takes every opportunity to share the gospel message. He is proud of his God and doesn't let the fear of being prosecuted or ridiculed for it get in his way.

If you missed the meeting you can go to www.townhallforhope.com and watch the video there and get much of the information he spoke about too.

Softball

Well, we had a double header tonight. I'm just getting home and it's nearly 11pm. We had to play the first game with just 8 people so needless to say, we got beat pretty badly. Still had fun and had a couple innings where we didn't give up any runs.

Game 2 was much better. We actually won this game something like 21-10. My performance over the two games was average at best. I hate knowing I can do something and then not performing. Missy pulled her calf muscle at third base. I'm beginning to think that position is cursed. Hopefully she will be better tomorrow.

I also started the new life circle class at church today. I'm really going to like this study. It's a true bible study. Not what someone else says or thinks but really what the bible says. I'm also trying to write down more of my thoughts which has seemed to help out during the study. You can always give a 2 word answer but I want to go deeper than that.

Anyway, off to bed.

Ewing Road

So like I promised, here are some pictures with my new lens adapter. It's hard to appreciate the wide angle as much in these photos but its nice. I took some other type of pictures but didn't have time to really show off the adapter.

I'm sure I'll play with it more and get some good shots when we go to Florida soon.

Anyway, here's a sample. More are on my Picasa page. Just click on one of them to get there.
